Organisation: Orwell Singers

The Orwell Singers is a mixed choir with no audition.

We are a well established choir with our members coming from a fairly wide catchment area between Cambridge and Royston.

Current numbers are 23 sopranos, 15 altos, 6 tenors and 6 basses. Our aim is to provide an enjoyable opportunity for people to sing a wide repertoire of music, both sacred and secular, for enjoyment and performance.

In addition to our regular Christmas and Summer concerts, which are held in Orwell Village Hall, we have occasionally put on themed musical evenings in the parish church or joined forces with other choirs - for example, we performed The Armed Man with the Garden City Singers in St George's Church, Letchworth.

Under our current conductor, Jonathan Hatley, we have continued to grow in numbers and confidence and our standard of singing has continued to improve.

This year our summer concert will be held in St John's College, Cambridge on Friday 5th July at 8.00pm.

We are looking for a person to continue the traditions of the choir - someone who enjoys all kinds of music, who is good at encouraging people and has a sense of humour. We can offer a fee/expenses. We have an excellent accompanist who plays for the concerts but not for rehearsals, so keyboard skills are very important.

We meet on Mondays during school term times at Barrington Village Hall, 63 High Street, Barrington, CB22 7QX from 7.45 - 9.30pm and we would be very happy for anyone to come along on a Monday evening to meet us.

We are hoping to hold auditions later in July, the date yet to be confirmed.
