Wetherby Choral Society seeks a Music Director for September 2025
Following the retirement of John Dunford, Wetherby Choral Society (WCS) is seeking a replacement. This is a paid position, with a good level of remuneration.
WCS is a non-auditioned SATB choir established over 50 years ago and which now comprises over 100 singers who meet throughout the academic year. The choir usually performs 4 concerts a year, predominantly from the traditional choral society repertoire, in conjunction with professional soloists and an orchestra. Rehearsals are on Monday evenings between 7.30-9.30p.m. in Wetherby Parish Church. Due to the choir's excellent working relationship with the Parish Church, concert performances are also held here.
We are looking for an energetic, professional and engaging musical personality with a sense of humour and excellent communication skills, to inspire and motivate us and to continue the high standards of music making that the choir has enjoyed under the direction of John Dunford for the last 32 years.
WCS has a professional accompanist, William Campbell, who is also the organist at St Anne's Cathedral in Leeds.
The MD will be responsible for presenting an annual costed programme of music for concerts to the committee for their approval, and for engaging an orchestra and soloists for each concert. Candidates will be expected to attend most committee meetings, and to prepare programme notes for concert programmes.
Short listed candidates will be invited to take the first hour of a rehearsal in January or early February 2025 with a follow-up Zoom Q&A meeting on another occasion.
This is an exciting opportunity to lead and work with an established and successful choir.
