Brixham Orpheus Male Voice Choir is celebrating its seventieth anniversary this year. Our current musical director has been in post for twenty of those years and is retiring. We are seeking his successor to take us into our eighth decade.
The ideal candidate will have good technical knowledge of music and some experience of leading a choir. We are a four part harmony male choir and an understanding of that is desirable. The current ensemble is small in number but there is roughly an even split between the sections.
The existing repertoire is extensive but there is a desire for the new MD to extend this and bring on new more contemporary songs whilst acknowledging the history of music in the choir.
The role holder will be expected to prepare material for weekly practices and to lead the choir in rehearsals for concerts throughout the year. There is an Assistant MD available to work closely with the post holder. There are several annual fixtures in concert list including a series of outdoor summer events at Brixham Quay, a Christmas Concert and an Annual Concert. In addition there are several performances arranged at venues throughout the South Devon area. Leading some of these concerts can be shared with the Assistant MD. Occasionally the choir is also invited to perform at private and civic events.
A small annual stipend is paid to the Musical Director.
