Chester Festival Chorus is a 70 person, auditioned choir which, unusually, performs only once per year, in early summer, rehearsing in the preceding few weeks. We do also "pop up" for other opportunities such as performing with English Touring Opera. Chorus members are nearly all members of other choirs, such as Chester Bach singers, Chester Music Society choir, and the Hal choir.
Our philosophy is to deliver a concert of high-quality choral music, sometimes a cappella, sometimes accompanied with Orchestra. We aim for a repertoire just outside the usual choral mainstream but we are not adverse to the classics. We like to include contemporary classical composers in our concerts. We also aim to promote music to those who would not normally experience classical choral music.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, talented, engaging and inspirational musical director to lead rehearsals, conduct concerts and guide us as to repertoire.
We aim to audition potential new musical directors at rehearsals in May/June with a view to starting planning for the 2026 programme in September 2025. Committee meetings are by zoom and proceeded in a friendly and efficient way.
Fees will be negotiable in line with prevailing rates.
