Following the decision of its Musical Director to stand down after more than 50 years, The Maia Singers is seeking to fill the post in time for the start of its autumn season, commencing in September 2025.
The Maia Singers is a choir with an excellent local reputation that has been in existence for user 100 years. It is an amateur SATB choir with approximately 50 members. We currently produce at least 3 concerts a year which we preform in local churched.
We have experience of singing with local orchestras, with soloists and have enjoyed trips around the UK (St Paul's and St Martin in the Fields) and abroad (Menin Gate, Belgium).
We enjoy a very wide repertoire and have an extensive library with music from 16th century to modern choral works. Examples of our recent concert programmes are available on our web site. We are always keen to experience new music.
We are looking for a musical director with
- excellent choir training and musical skills
- a wide knowledge of choral repertoire
- excellent interpersonal skills
- a sense of humour, energy and enthusiasm
- the ability to work with the choir's committee to programme imaginative and attractive concerts
- organisation and practical skills
- ideally some experience of conducting large events and orchestral direction
The new Director will have the support of the committee in developing interesting and challenging programmes and in furthering their own professional skills.
Remuneration will be negotiable.
The Maia Singers rehearse during school term times on Monday evenings from 19:30 to 21:30 at Compass Point, 96 Nangreave Road, Heavily, Stockport, SK2 6DS.
