Director of Music

Sheen Gate Choir is seeking to appoint a new Director of Music to start in September 2025.

We are a non-audition amateur SATB choir based in London SW14. We rehearse weekly on Tuesday evenings in East Sheen with a professional accompanist. The choir was founded nearly 16 years ago and has a healthy membership of around 45 singers some of whom have been singing with the choir since its inception. We're a choir of mixed abilities ranging from trained singers to some who can't read music and we welcome all singers. We work loosely on a school term basis and generally put on two concerts a year, one relatively low key with short pieces towards the year end and a larger scale concert with a major SATB work, professional ensemble and soloists both professional and from the choir in early summer. We are looking for a trained/professional musician with conducting and choral training experience who can inspire voice and musical confidence and has enthusiasm for enabling amateur singers to achieve their best as a group. The administration of the choir is run by a group of volunteers covering most aspects of management, with the Director of Music being a driver of repertoire but not wholly responsible for it. We are funded through member subscriptions and receipts from concert ticket sales. Rehearsal and concert fees to be agreed.
