Birmingham Conducting Weekend

Saturday 5th April 2025

5th and 6th April 2025, 9.30am - 4.30pm, Bramall Music Building, University of Birmingham, B15 2TT

Tutors: Sarah Tenant-Flowers, Peter Broadbent and Lucy Hollins

Join us for our new weekend training course format - two days of practical conducting training, at two levels, Initial and Intermediate, including podium time for all participants. Booking options are flexible, with the option to attend as a conductor at either level for an individual day or the full weekend, or as an observer to the Intermediate course.

The Initial level is designed for those who are either new to leading choirs, or have conducted for a while and want to back up their experience with training. The Intermediate level is designed for those who already have experience in leading a choir and may have had some previous training.

Our tutors are three of our most experienced course tutors, with years of experience and a huge variety of choirs between them, ideally suited to provide training that's tailored to your needs. (Please note that due to unforeseen circumstances, Peter Broadbent will be teaching on the Initial Course instead of Liz Garnett. Peter was the first Director of Training for abcd, having helped to instigate and design the curriculum for our conducting courses).

The course will develop and extend existing leadership skills, enabling you to prepare your choir with greater confidence. We expect participants to be able to sing, have a basic level of sight-reading for the Initial course, and a competent level of sight-reading for the Intermediate course. If you are unsure which level is most suitable for you, please contact elisabeth.brierley@abcd.org.uk
