The Belper Singers are seeking applications for the role of Music Director (MD). We are looking for an inspirational, qualified and experienced director, starting in January 2026.

Belper Singers is a friendly and experienced chamber choir of about 35 mixed voices, based in Belper, Derbyshire. We meet to rehearse on Wednesday evenings for 2 hours at Belper Congregational Church.

The music is drawn from compositions from the 16th to 21st centuries including a cappella music such as madrigals and motets and works that require organ or piano accompaniment. Occasionally we sing with an invited orchestral ensemble.

Recent performances include Durufle’s Requiem, Handel’s Messiah, Rutter’s Magnificat and Britten’s Rejoice in the Lamb. We have also enjoyed more contemporary works such as Chilcott’s Songs and Cries of London Town and Roth’s Stargazer. Soloists are often drawn from within the choir.

In the past the choir has sung cathedral services, eg. at Birmingham, Lincoln and Southall.

We generally perform three main concerts a year in local churches or halls, fitting in less formal visits at Christmas time and responding to occasional local requests at festival times.

An appropriate rate of remuneration for a prospective candidate would be between £35 - £45per hour.
