Equity, Access & Diversity

Everyone who sings, plays music, organises, or attends events knows its value to happiness, health, well-being, social life, and the richness it adds to communities. This is why it’s important to consider the barriers that keep people from engaging with, joining, and continuing in choirs. Choirs are almost universally built on tradition, which sometimes makes it difficult to keep pace with social change.

We believe that equity, diversity and inclusion are of paramount importance to create a better world for our musical leaders, singers and audiences. It will create a richer and more profound artistic experience for everyone when diverse voices are seen, heard, sung and played.

To support our members and the wider choral world, we commit to creating and collating resources in this section that specifically encourage them to make their choirs as welcoming as possible to people from diverse backgrounds. If there are any resources that you believe would be a useful addition, please contact Elisabeth Brierley abcd Training Manager.

Our current Equity, Access and Diversity resources are divided into the following key areas: LGBTQ+ resources, Repertoire and programming, Accessibility and inclusion. More sections are being added, so watch this space.
