Accompanist: Worcester Male Voice Choir
Worcester Male Voice Choir seeks to recruit an enthusiastic and experienced accompanist who can support the Musical Director and choir to pursue excellence in male voice choral singing. The role has become vacant as, after 8 years with the choir, the current accompanist is moving on to a musical directorship elsewhere.
Established in 1987, WMVC is a progressive and exciting Midlands-based choir performing six or more concerts each year and a UK or continental tour and often singing in joint concerts with other choirs. In 2026, the choir is committed to 7 main concerts and a short tour to Cornwall (May 2026). There are other frequent events where an accompanist may also be required.
The choir sings from a varied and continually developing repertoire of over 150 pieces covering traditional and classical to more modern music. It ranges from songs such as Zadok the Priest, Welsh choir classics and sea shanties to varied songs from musicals and pieces by The Beach Boys and Billy Joel.
WMVC is a registered charity which raises funds for other causes both local and national. Since forming in 1987 the choir has donated approximately £250,000 to charity. The choir’s Main Committee and Music Committee support the MD and choristers.
The choir rehearses at the Angel Centre, Worcester, on Mondays and Thursdays (7.30pm to 9.15pm) and currently has over 90 choristers with new joiners most months.
Accompanist remuneration is paid per rehearsal/event and there may be limited flexibility to reflect experience, qualifications, and availability. If you feel you have the necessary skills and enthusiasm and would like to discuss the role further, please contact Phil Spurr (Music Committee Chairperson) Email: philspurr2@gmail.com Mobile: 07540 522679.
