Come and Sing with Neil Ferris: a day exploring the works of Jonathan Dove

Join us for a singing day in London to explore the choral works of Jonathan Dove! The day will be led by conductor Neil Ferris, and we are delighted that the composer himself will also be on hand to give insight into his works. The day will include movements from The Passing of the Year and the Missa Brevis, as well as his beautiful Seek him that maketh the seven stars and In beauty may I walk. All music will be provided on the day.

About Neil Ferris

Neil Ferris is a prominent figure in the choral music scene, serving as the Chorus Director of the BBC Symphony Chorus, Artistic Director and Conductor of the professional chamber choir Sonoro and Festival Conductor of the Leith Hill Festival. His extensive experience includes conducting at prestigious venues such as the St Magnus International Festival, the Wimbledon International Music Festival, and the BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall. Neil has also been involved in teaching and mentoring, leading masterclasses at institutions like the Royal Academy of Music and the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. Recordings include the world premiere recording of Cecilia McDowall’s Da Vinci Requiem and Seventy Degrees below Zero, with Wimbledon Choral and City of London Sinfonia, an album of the choral music of Jonathan Dove (Naxos), and a regular programme of recordings with Sonoro.

About Jonathan Dove

One of the most performed living opera composers, Jonathan Dove’s innate understanding of the voice is also exemplified in his large and varied choral output. Dove won the 2008 Ivor Novello Award for classical music and was made a Commander of the British Empire (CBE) in the Queen’s 2019 Birthday Honours for services to music. 

About the venue

St Mary at Hill is a beautiful church close to Monument in London and the public entrance to the Church can be found on Lovat Lane is on Lovat Lane. There is minimal parking nearby, but there is a car park at Tower Hill, which is approximately a 5 – 10 minute walk away from the venue: https://www.sabaparking.co.uk/en/car-park/tower-hill-coach-and-car-park

The nearest tube stations are Monument, Bank and Cannon Street. The nearest train stations are London Bridge, Fenchurch Street and Cannon Street.
