The International Association of Music Librarians (UK and Irl) has announced the launch of its 2012 Excellence Award for Music Libraries and, new this year, the Personal Achievement Award so that outstanding service by both libraries and individual members of staff can be recognised.
The aim of the Award is to highlight and celebrate all the good work that goes on in music libraries from supporting research to providing sets of scores for choral and orchestral societies. It's open to all music libraries no matter what their sector, size or type. So whether your library is a small community library, a university or college library, a library in a school, conservatoire, orchestra or specialist society, then this award is for YOU.
The Awards are presented every two years. Nominations will be judged by a panel of experts from the music industry chaired this year by Professor Jan Smaczny of Queen's University, Belfast. "Your invitation to chair the 2012 IAML Excellence Awards Panel was a huge honour for me" said Professor Smaczny, "I have always been a keen supporter of music libraries and the vital work they do. The work of the music librarian is key to all aspects of musical studies and these awards are a wonderful opportunity to recognise that." The range of music libraries is diverse: no two are alike, each reflecting and supporting its own user community, and there is much to celebrate.
Awards will be presented on Sunday 15 April 2012 at the IAML(UK & Irl) Annual Study Weekend in Cardiff.
The deadline for nominations for the 2012 Awards is Wednesday 30 November 2011
