The search is on to find the UK's best amateur choir! Auditions begin in January and groups of all ages and musical styles can take part.
Six finalists will perform to an audience of 2,000 at London's Royal Festival Hall as part of a spectacular show broadcast on BBC television and radio.
Following a series of auditions at venues across the UK from January to March, four choirs in each category - Children, Youth, Adult and Open - will be selected to perform at the category finals at Manchester's Bridgewater Hall on 6 October. The category winners and two 'wildcards' will then go head to head in the Grand Final at the Royal Festival Hall on 28 October to take the title Choir of the Year 2012!
Choir of the Year is a biennial search for the UK's best amateur choir and is open to groups of all ages and music styles. An extensive programme of live, public events and BBC broadcasts provide an important platform to celebrate the wealth of choral activity across Britain. More than 2,000 choirs and 130,000 singers have taken part since the competition was founded in 1984.
