The Seventh Cornwall International Male Voice Choral Festival will take place from 29th April - 4th May 2015. Over 60 male voice choirs from across the UK and beyond will be participating. Choirs will be coming from across Europe, Russia, South Africa and other parts of the world. In 2015 a special festival for boys, youth and Cambiata choirs is being organised. Featuring fun activities, workshops and competitions (as well as concerts), workshop sessions will be led by Ben Parry (Director, National Youth Choirs of Great Britain) amongst other well known presenters.
The Festival will feature 25 concerts across Cornwall, choir singing in a variety of tourist venues, competitions (in 2013 21 choirs competed), workshops and seminars for directors, singers and accompanists. In all, more than 60 choirs will feature in at least 50 events at more than 40 locations across Cornwall during the six day Festival. Further details are available by clicking here or by emailing Festival Director, Peter Davies.
The Festival has also launched its 2014 Composers' Competition. The competition, unique among composition competitions, has no age limit on entrants and awards a single prize of £1000 to the winner. The competition is open to any composer resident and living in the UK. The closing date 28 March 2014 and the winner will be publicly announced in early June 2014. The adjudicator will be Dr Alan Bullard.
The composition, of not more than three minutes duration, should be for any male ensemble whether traditional male voice TTBB, Cambiata, Youth or Treble/Alto combination. The composition can be accompanied or a cappella. The aim of the competition is to bring new music to the attention of male ensembles across the country.
The winning entry will be premiered at an International Gala Concert during the 2015 Festival in the Hall for Cornwall.
