The Government has announced an extra £18 million for music education.
Central Government funding for music education programmes will increase by £18m in 2015-16 and funding for music education hubs will increase to around £75m in total.
The Government has also backed down on its proposed recommendation to local authorities to stop funding music education. A large number of response were received in response to the consultation and as a result local authorities will continue to have total discretion about the money they spend on music services.
The Protect Music Education Campaign is coordinated by the ISM and is supported by over 130 music education and music industry organisations, including abcd. The campaign is now working to fight for a firm funding commitment from all political parties up to 2020.
