We're delighted that Ken Fayle has agreed to take on the role of Chair of abcd.
Ken has been a Council member for many years, and more recently joined the Trustees.
He joined abcd 20 years ago and was a student on one of our first Intermediate Conducting courses. He has conducted many choirs in the North-West, including church choirs, chamber choirs, choral societies and community choirs. He is also an organist, AOTOS-accredited singing teacher, and sings with Chester Cathedral Nave Choir.
Ken has been an abcd Advisory Council member for many years, originally as North-West regional chair, then as a practitioner. He was appointed a Trustee earlier this year. Ken's 40 years of sales and management experience at IBM complements the skills of the other trustees. Having recently retired, he is able to dedicate more time to help us with the next phase of our development.
Ken takes over from Leslie East, who announced his intention to stand down as Chair some time ago, having already done an extra stint through the pandemic. Leslie's long experience and reputation in the music business have been invaluable to abcd and we're very pleased - and relieved - that he will be staying on as a Trustee, and will be our Deputy Chair, so we will have the benefit of his experience and expertise for a while longer.
Leslie's predecessor Jonathan Startup stood down as a Trustee at our last AGM after 20 years, including several as Chair, then Deputy Chair, so we owe him a huge vote of thanks for all his work and for giving of his time and experience over those years.
