Music Director: Lancaster Singers
Lancaster Singers, an auditioned mixed choir of some 50 voices and good sight-reading skills, and about to celebrate its 50th anniversary, seek a new Music Director from autumn 2024.
The choir performs music from the 16th to 21st centuries, from a cappella to major choral works with professional orchestras and soloists. Please visit our website www.lancastersingers.org for further information about past and future concerts.
We perform in a variety of venues for concerts, mainly around Lancaster including the city's Cathedral and Priory Church but also in churches and other venues around the city and surrounding area.
We are looking for a trained choral and orchestral conductor with
- Experience of conducting large events and orchestral direction
- Excellent choir training and musical skills
- A wide knowledge of choral repertoire in its historical context
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- The ability to work with the choir's committee to programme imaginative and attractive concerts
- A sense of humour and infectious enthusiasm
- Organisational and practical skills
The new Director will have the full engagement of the committee in developing an interesting and challenging programme and in furthering his or her own professional skills.
We rehearse during term time, with a professional accompanist, on Tuesday evenings from 7.30 to 9.30pm at Lancaster University. Five or six regular concerts are performed throughout the year, with occasional additional events such as workshops and one-off concerts.
The Musical Director will be employed on a self-employed basis, with a competitive rate of remuneration for rehearsals and for concerts, based on experience.
