Musical Director: Brixham Orpheus Male Voice Choir

Expressions of interest are invited for the post of MD of the Brixham Orpheus Male Voice Choir.

Brixham Orpheus Male Voice Choir was founded in 1954 and this year celebrates its 70th Anniversary. During that time there have been seven Musical Directors, including the present incumbent, Ron Burrington, who is handing in his baton after leading us for 19 years.

We are seeking someone with understanding and vision to take us into our eighth decade.

The ideal candidate will have good technical knowledge of music and understand arrangements for four-part harmony and the particular needs of male voices. The sections are 1st Tenor, 2nd Tenor, Baritone and Bass. The current ensemble is small in number but there is roughly an even split between the sections.

The existing repertoire is extensive but there is a desire for the new MD to extend this and bring on new more contemporary songs whilst acknowledging the history of music in the choir.

The role holder will be expected to prepare material for weekly practices, held on a Thursday evening, in preparation for concerts throughout the year. There are several annual fixtures, including a series of weekly performances on Brixham Quay, held during August, a Christmas concert and an annual concert. There are also some invitations to join other choirs at their performances and other civic and private events throughout the year. The MD is expected to be available to lead the choir at these events.

The choir has a strong community spirit and there are also some social events for choir members and guests during the year and although not compulsory participation from the MD is desirable.

An annual stipend is made available for the Musical Director and two accompanists.
