The Liss Community Choir is a 30-strong, mixed SATB choir with members of working age and those who are retired. We have a professional accompanist on piano. We offer a welcoming environment, do not require audition from prospective members, and always seek to encourage singing ability. We wish to grow our membership and become the go-to choir for new and aspiring singers from Liss and surrounding villages.

The Choir enjoys the widespread involvement of its members in the day-to-day running, with dedicated teams set up to take care of the library, events, PR and such like. The Choir meets on Wednesday evenings between 7:30 and 9.00pm. Our schedule follows that of the Hampshire schools calendar, with 3 terms of 10 weeks each.

Following recent plans for retirement, we now seek a capable and enthusiastic Musical Director to realise the Choir’s potential and guide it through its next phase of growth and development. It is important that he / she be able to foster a welcoming, inclusive and fun environment.

The main requirements are:

• To lead weekly Choir rehearsals during term time, identifying the music schedule in advance.
• To prepare the Choir for our main concert each spring, as well as for visits to local community centres and care homes. It would be encouraging to build on our fund-raising efforts for charity.
• To develop the 4-part singing abilities of the Choir.
• To make best use of the Choir’s varied music library, and to consult with the Choir about suitable pieces to extend our repertoire.
• To liaise with the Choir’s Committee where necessary, in particular about the logistics leading up to the Choir’s concerts.
• It would be advantageous for the successful applicant to provide support on the piano, in the event of absence by the accompanist.
