Musical Director: Skelmanthorpe Male Voice Choir
Skelmanthorpe Male Voice Choir is looking for a Musical Director to commence in the Autumn term 2025.
We are a TTBB ensemble of around 30 voices and are celebrating over 90 years of singing. Our varied repertoire is always growing and includes classical, traditional, jazz, showtime and modern pieces. We love to sing, and our track record of festival success proves it’s possible to blend achievement with real fun! We meet every Tuesday from 7.30pm to 9.30pm alternating between Skelmanthorpe and Sandal (Wakefield)
We are looking to appoint a musical director with the following qualities:
- Professional musician and conductor with vocal coaching skills
- Calm and confident leadership style. Creative, conscientious, encouraging and enthusiastic
- A talent for musical detail, able to work constructively with the choir to ensure confident, polished performances at all our public events
- Able to plan a rehearsal schedule, training the choir at rehearsals and workshops in singing and vocal techniques
- Design imaginative and engaging music programmes with broad audience appeal, which will develop the choir
- Reliable and organised
- Able to communicate well with audiences, the Committee and choir members
- Well networked with the ability to attract new choir members
- Able to source or create learning tracks for the choir members
The musical Director would be required to:
- Conduct rehearsals (weekly on Tuesdays 7.30pm to 9.30pm)
- Training workshops (when required)
- Conduct approx. 10 performances per year.
- Conduct the choir at competitions (usually) 3 per year
Salary would be discussed at interview and approved by the Committee.
