Musical Director

North West

Musical Director: Di Voci

Di Voci Women’s Choir, Altrincham, wishes to appoint a new Musical Director to take up the post in 2026.

Di Voci is a choir of 40+ women from all backgrounds, most (but not all) of whom read music. We rehearse on a Monday from 7.15pm to 9.15pm during school term times.

We are a committed and supportive group that takes its musical development as seriously as it does the social and supportive aspects of being a cohesive group. We work hard at our music and at maintaining relationships within the choir. We see sharing laughter and having fun as integral parts of our life in this singing community.

  • We perform a wide range of music including sacred and secular music.
  • We are fortunate to have as our patron the composer and soprano Sasha Johnson Manning who has written a number of works for us to perform
  • We aspire to go on tour regularly alternating ‘at home’ and further afield events
  • Periodically we enter competitions. We have enjoyed winning trophies in the past but we mainly compete to enhance our musical development.  Recently we have competed in the Llangollen International Eisteddfod, the Bangor International Choral Festival and the Isle of Man Festival of Choirs
  • We expect to perform at least 2 concerts each year (June and December); we sing as guests at concerts held by musician colleagues and we respond to invitations to sing at charity and private events
  • We support the Light up a Life service of our local Hospice every year

We want to appoint a MD who will enable us to build on an already secure foundation. To this end we believe that candidates should have:

  • Prior experience of conducting an adult choir
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership and communication skills, to ensure effective liaison with, for example, the accompanist and committee members
  • Knowledge and understanding of vocal technique to enable continued development and maintain high standards
  • The ability to continue to introduce new, exciting and challenging repertoire, both contemporary and classical
  • Music training and qualifications
  • Commitment to attend a minimum of 36-38 rehearsal sessions a year including the appointment of a deputy when necessary

Additionally, we believe it is desirable that candidates have:

  • The ability to balance professionalism with enthusiasm and energy
  • The ability to work effectively in committee
  • A good sense of humour
  • An established network of choirs and musicians in the North West

Successful applicants will be offered an honorarium which takes into account current rates for professional musicians, and includes an element for financing CPD. We are a ‘not-for-profit’ organisation.

  • A covering letter of application addressing the professional and personal qualities listed above, along with an indication of your particular areas of musical interest.

Please email your application to the Secretary at divociwomenschoir@gmail.com
