Musical Director: Greens Norton Community Choir
Greens Norton Community Choir needs a Musical Director starting in September 2026, our current MD is moving after seven very successful and enjoyable years with the choir. We are a small, friendly choir of Greens Norton Community Choir needs a Musical Director starting in September 2026, as our current MD is moving on to pastures new after seven very successful and enjoyable years with the choir. We are a small, friendly choir of 20-25 members. The choir is non-auditioning, open to everyone regardless of singing experience or ability to read music, with the emphasis on singing for fun. We enjoy singing SATB in a variety of styles, including traditional, folk, jazz and musical theatre.
We meet in the Greens Norton Community Centre, near Towcester, Northants on Friday evenings from 19:30 to 21:00, during term time.
We usually perform concerts at the village Harvest Supper, the British Legion Remembrance Day and the village Christmas Fete. This year we are singing in the Towcester Midsummer Music Festival.
The person we are looking for will have:
- The ability to explain things in different ways and motivate choir members. They will be skilled, enthusiastic, dedicated and will encourage and challenge the choir in a positive and enjoyable way. Previous experience of working with a choir an advantage but not essential.
- Wide knowledge of repertoire in a variety of styles and the ability to select an appropriate range of music for the choir to sing.
- A firm commitment to the choir, our rehearsals and performances.
- Ability to work together with a proactive committee to achieve the best for the choir.
- Ability to conduct rehearsals and plan an effective rehearsal schedule over the season to deliver performances of a high standard.
- Ability to provide keyboard accompaniment with the use of backing tracks as appropriate.
Remuneration
The role will attract an hourly rate of £50 being £75 for a Friday rehearsal. The successful candidate will have a probationary period of one term.

The selection process:
Suitable candidates will be invited to meet with a small number of the choir committee. A short list will be invited to attend a rehearsal of the choir. The successful candidate will be notified by email to start in September.
