North West

Music Director: Salford Choral Society
Salford Choral Society is seeking a new Music Director to start in September 2027 – succeeding our current MD Tom Newall who is stepping down after ten successful years.
This is a rare opportunity to lead one of the North West’s biggest and oldest choral societies – supported by a committee that encourages creative programming and new ideas.
We are a friendly amateur mixed SATB choir of about 90 singers, performing four concerts a year, across classical and contemporary music, often with orchestral accompaniment.
We rehearse in central Salford on Wednesday evenings between 7.30pm and 9.30pm with a professional accompanist.
We welcome applications from enthusiastic choral conductors with proven success in directing other choirs of a similar standard/size – and from those earlier in their career who can demonstrate the potential to grow into the role.
The role is offered on a self-employment basis. Remuneration is currently £140 per rehearsal and £520 for concert day (approx. £7,540 per annum). Fees are reviewed annually.
The closing date for applications is 11 September. Interviews will take place w/c 21 September, with three final candidates invited to work with the choir at a rehearsal on 7October.
