Buckland & Betchworth Choral Society (BBCS), www.bbcsinfo.org, is looking to appoint a Musical Director for the start of January 2027.  We are a mixed-ability choral society based in Betchworth, Surrey.

The choir was founded about 100 years ago and has circa 50 members.  Every April the choir competes in the Leith Hill Music Festival, www.lhmf.co.uk.  In addition, it presents at least three other concerts a year in the locality.  We sing a wide variety of secular and religious classical choral music. We have also experienced a broad range of genres, including modern composers and, for the summer concert, a lighter repertoire using classical as well as more modern material.   We also are fortunate to have an accomplished accompanist who has been with the choir for many years.

Rehearsals are held at Betchworth Village Memorial Village Hall every Wednesday from 7.45 to 9.45 p.m.

We are looking to appoint an MD with the following skill set:

• should hold a recognised qualification in music (e.g. at diploma or degree level). Ideally with a specialism in conducting or choral direction
• has experience working with choral groups, booking and working with professional instrumentalists and singers, and have a solid grasp of the choral repertoire
• has an engaging personality, can motivate and work with mixed-ability amateur singers
• has the ability and ambition to build on BBCS’s potential to become an even more accomplished and successful choir
