Conductor: The Purcell Singers
The Purcell Singers, one of London's leading chamber choirs, is seeking a new conductor to lead their activities from September 2024 onward. The choir was formed in 1994, so the first concert for the new conductor will be a celebration of our 30th anniversary, scheduled for October.
The choir draws on talented and experienced singers to perform a varied repertoire of well-loved and lesser known works, and has also recorded commercially. We perform extensively around the capital, across the UK, and internationally.
As conductor, you would be responsible for:
- Programming own-promoted concerts and other musical performances (approx 4 per year)
- Conducting rehearsals and events, including as chorus master for events in which the choir has been hired, as agreed with the Founder Musical Director
- Auditioning potential new choir members and, on occasion, participating in listening sessions of current choir members
- Promoting the choir and identifying performance opportunities where possible
- Supporting the Founder Musical Director and trustees in pursuing the choir's strategic aims (revised annually)
The role is paid at the following rates:
£350 for conducting on the day of a concert, including the concert itself and a rehearsal on the day;
£140 for conducting a rehearsal, up to 3 hours;
£17 per hour for participating in auditions or listening sessions.
Closing Date 12 July.
Applicants should send a CV and brief covering letter to admin@purcellsingers.org
Interviews for this role will be held in the last two weeks of July, and a second round trial session with the choir will be held for applicants successful from the interviews on 17th August.
To discuss the role further, please contact the Chair, Mary Clayton-Kastenholz, on 07923014867 or chair@purcellsingers.org.
