Music Director: Wendover Choral Society
Wendover Choral Society wish to appoint a Music Director who will embrace the choir's enthusiastic inclusive spirit and our aspirations to improve our singing technique and to develop a better-quality sound.
WCS is a small mixed ability SATB group which attracts singers from the Buckinghamshire town of Wendover and a wide surrounding rural area. Our numbers fluctuate with our optimum being forty to forty-five singers.
This vacancy has occurred because of the impending retirement of Peter Bassano after over twenty years' service to WCS. During his tenure, the choir has grown in confidence and ability. We have been thrilled to perform with gifted singers who have gone on to high profile careers in opera and with many internationally renowned musicians.
We rehearse on a Thursday evening between September and May at St Mary's Church, Wendover where we perform two concerts a year. Our focus is mainly but not exclusively, sacred classical music from the Renaissance period to the modern day. In recent years, we have sung with professional and semi-professional orchestras and ensembles. Our soloists are usually Josephine Baker Trust scholars from the Royal Academy of Music.
The person appointed will have experience of leading and developing choirs and will be able to balance the needs of confident and less-skilled singers. Orchestral experience although desirable is not essential. Remuneration is competitive and is in line with experience. Additional concert fees are also paid. We anticipate that the successful candidate will take up the post in September 2024 or January 2025. WCS looks forward to working with someone who will instil new energy and provide fresh vision for the future of the choir.
