Musical Director: Woking Choral Society

Woking Choral Society, a unauditioned choir, founded in 1896, with about 65 members, is looking for a new Musical Director to take over from Cole Bendall not later than January 2027. (Subject to the chosen candidate’s availability, there may be opportunity to start with us in this year’s autumn term).

We rehearse on Monday evenings, during term time, at St Andrews Church, Woking, GU21 3LG from 7.30pm to 9.30pm.

We perform three concerts each year, which are accompanied by professional instrumentalists, orchestras and soloists. We also run occasional vocal technique or “come and sing” workshops.

Our varied repertoire has recently included Vaughan Williams’ “Dona Nobis Pacem”, Cecilia McDowall’s “Da Vinci Requiem”, Purcell’s “Dido and Aeneas” and staples of the choral repertoire such as Haydn’s “The Seasons” and Faure’s “Requiem”. Our concerts are typically in the Woking area, often in St John’s Church in West Byfleet. We welcome opportunities to collaborate with other choirs and ensembles and look forward to doing so in our upcoming performance of Elgar’s “Dream of Gerontius” in G-Live, Guildford.

An applicant with a strong vocal background would be particularly welcome.

We offer Choral Scholarships to encourage and develop young talent and are delighted to observe the progress made by recent participants in this scheme. We will expect the new Musical Director to actively encourage this initiative, working with the scholars to mutual benefit.
